The Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) is pleased to announce that the sixth Annual DC Parent and Family Engagement Summit, which will be held on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2019, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. Breakfast and lunch will be served. The event is FREE for all DC parents to attend.
Information provided at the Summit will engage families as partners in education and provide support and resources to ensure families have access to high quality education for their children, in accordance with the parental engagement provisions of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) of 1965, as updated by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) of 2015 and Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
At the Summit, parents and families will:
- Actively engage parents and families in the education process
- Provide a forum for meaningful group discussions among parents to build capacity and stay engaged in their children’s education
- Encourage effective two-way communication to strengthen relationships within the community and forge meaningful partnerships to achieve greater social and educational outcomes for students
