The OST Office's Institute for Youth Development offers additional trainings and workshops for OST providers in the District.
To request workshops, the organization must have a minimum of 15 participants confirmed to participate. Workshops may be scheduled by completing this online form or by emailing [email protected]. Workshops must be requested at least six weeks in advance. Please note: workshops are only offered in English, unless otherwise indicated.
Youth Mental Health First Aid
Youth Mental Health First Aid USA is an eight and a half hour public education program which introduces participants to the unique risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems in adolescents, builds understanding of the importance of early intervention, and teaches individuals how to help an adolescent in crisis or experiencing a mental health challenge. Mental Health First Aid uses role-playing and simulations to demonstrate how to assess a mental health crisis; select interventions and provide initial help; and connect young people to professional, peer, social, and self-help care.
Nonviolent Crisis Intervention
The Nonviolent Crisis Intervention program is a safe and effective behavior management system designed to help human service professionals provide the best care, welfare, safety, and security of disruptive, assaultive, and out-of-control individuals-even and especially during their most violent moments.
Interactive Learning Tools
During these changing times, it is important to find creative ways to connect with youth. The Interactive Learning Tools workshop explores various free tools and resources that enhance the interactions with youth.
Tutoring Best Practices & Multiple Intelligences
This workshop will provide participants to learn best practices when tutoring children. Additionally, participants will examine the different types of multiple intelligences and the importance of how multiple intelligences impact students learning.
