Participants in this workshop will explore a framework that is useful for focused on harnessing Social Emotional Learning (SEL) efforts on change in practice. Workshop activities will engage participants in examining SEL efforts in the context of both the field’s commitment to Positive Youth Development and the research, resources, and supports driving adoption of SEL practices in staff practices, program management, and continuous quality improvement efforts. Identify ways to have a greater impact on SEL development of young people, wherever they work with them.
Learning Objectives:
Demonstrate a foundational understanding of SEL and how skill building in the social, emotional, and cognitive competencies occurs in the multiple places learning happens
Identify how an SEL focus grows from and adds value to the current quality improvement and positive youth development efforts in their system, organization, or program
Articulate how SEL competencies, staff practices, and program design interact to support positive student outcomes regardless of program curriculum or content
Identify how their system/organization/program can most effectively engage in the SEL Program Quality Improvement, SEL Methods, or SEL for Managers to support their staff teams in continuing to strengthen program quality via an SEL focus
