On Saturday, June 24, 2023, join the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture as we mark the first Saturday of summer—Solstice Saturday—by staying open late to celebrate!
- Visit the museum until 10 p.m. (no passes required from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.)
- Dine the Sweet Home Cafe opens at 11 a.m.
- Shop at the Museum Store until 10 p.m. (last entry at 9:30 p.m.)

- Afrofuturism a History of Black Futures: using more than 100 objects from music, film, comic books, and more, this exhibition investigates Afrofuturism’s impact on American culture.
- Spirit in the Dark: Religion in Black Music, Activism and Popular Culture: this exhibition examines Black religious life through a selection of photographs from the Johnson Publishing Company, publisher of Ebony, Jet and Negro Digest.
- Grab a pop-up mint planter for your garden from our Welcome Desk - while supplies last.
Attend a public program:
- Black Folk: A History of the Black Working Class with Dr. Blair LM Kelley: learn how networks of resistance and joy sustained communities and laid the groundwork for activism.
